My workplace has one vacancy due to retirement and a second position will also become vacant in one month due to another planned retirement. The positions are a kind of promotion from operator level to foreman with a better pay
The employer has posted the two openings for a standard 14 days posting. I’m applying for these positions and I am 99 % sure that I have all the qualifications, experience, seniority required but the timing of job posting and potential interview is overlapping with my scheduled vacation.
There is only one week after the job postings closing date until my vacation and I’m worried that the employer might skip me for this opening during my one-month vacation and favor other candidates.
Is there anything that I can do to prevent this or if I’m skipped in the process can I contest or grieve?

If your workplace is unionized (which we infer may be the case since you mentioned the possibility of grieving), you should speak to your union.

If your workplace is not unionized, to properly assess your situation, we would need to review the terms and conditions of your employment, and obtain further information from you. We strongly encourage you to contact us to set up a consultation with one of our employment lawyers who can fully review your circumstances, and provide you with guidance and advice regarding your workplace rights.
