I have worked at this warehouse for 8 years and 3 months. They laid me off march 4 and continued my benifits and the layoff can go for 35 weeks. They recently terminated me without cause and offered me 13 weeks of pay. Considering my employment contract had no clauses for a layoff and my wife was pregnant and I told them I needed to take parental leave eventually and they laid me off and then terminated me. Is this legal? What should I do?

Hello,

An employer can terminate you for almost any reason in Ontario, so long as they provide you with your full severance. If, however, you can show that your request to take parental leave played a role in your termination, then this may amount to discrimination based on family status.
