I work hybrid. There are certain days at the office when there are departments present and sometimes I am alone. I have voiced a few times that I am uncomfortable with being by myself at the office. They want someone present for unexpected couriers /mail (part of their argument), and since I am admin it would fall on me and another colleague (we take turns being in the office). They also stress it's not that unsafe as no one can access our floor unless they have a fob and when I am alone someone is supposed to checkin (which doesn't always happen) and even if it did, if I fall and am found, checked in on 2 hours later, it could be too late. Anyhow, there was a small electrical fire in the office building a few floors down last week and the fire alarm did not go own, but the firemen came. I am glad it wasn't that serious but feel I am doing myself wrong somehow, leaving my life and safety in their hands. Because it's been going for some time, would I even be justified to leave and get some severance? What else I can do?
Thank you for your question. Your employer cannot unilaterally change your job duties without notice. If they do so, you may be entitled to severance. We recommend you contact us at +1-855-821-5900 to speak to one of our legal representatives.
