Hi, without getting into too much detail I am going to be laid off. My employer offers a top up to a set % of my salary for a set period of time. I have been informed that if I work during that time it would be considered severing ties with the company and the top up and any other entitlements (possible severance, benefits) would be essentially forfeited. I have a part time job that is on-call, and the hours are not scheduled or predictable, the income is also not predictable or set as it is based on response. This job is entirely outside the hours of my normal work and brings in a few hundred dollars a month maximum. I have done this job for over a year. Would continuing this work while on the top up plan be considered severing ties with the company and forfeiting the aforementioned rights to the benefits offered by the company? Would a leave of absence from the other work be necessary? The income from that job will be less in the upcoming calendar year, likely, than it was in the past year. Thank you.
