I have been told that I will be moved into a new role that is entirely different than my current role. It will be a complete change from what I have been doing my entire career. I am a middle manager with almost 25 years in the organization. This has stressed me out greatly as I seem to not have a choice.

Hello,

Your reaction is understandable, and you have rights in this situation. An employer cannot make substantial changes to your job without your consent. If you do not consent, you can treat the change as a termination (referred to as a "constructive dismissal") and require that your employer provide you with a severance package. You may be owed up to two years as severance.

Not every change to your job will amount to a "substantial change" in the eyes of the law. It is important that you speak to one of our qualified employment lawyers at Samfiru Tumarkin before making any decisions about your next steps. We often provide free consultations to people in your situation so that you have the information you need before making an important career decision. You can reach out to us directly at employmentlawyer.ca
