I was just recently laid off from the company. 2 of my colleagues were laid off the day before. I have worked for this company for almost 20 years. At the meeting, I asked them why I was terminated. They gave me 2 answers. At the meeting, it was "due to financial woes, the company is not generating revenues and that is why we have to lay off employees". But, on my Record of Employment (ROE) it will be entered as "Termination due to shortage of work". However, on the day I was let go, my department manager just hired 3 new contract workers. That doesn't make sense to me. As for the severance package, I am questioning about the "Indemnity in lieu of notice of termination". They are giving me eight weeks. But isn't it for "1 week per 1 year employment for the company? Thank you.
