My husband was with Bank of Nova Scotia since 2011 (in Ontario), he got cancer in 2022 and was on short term leave on a off until 2025 and went on LTL. Sept.25, 2025 the bank eliminated his position. They did "assure" him further information will be provided when he was ready to return to work. He passed in Jan. 19, 2026. Was he entitled to anything more than what he invested in from the bank? Any exit package?

Hello,

I am sorry for your loss. It is not clear from your question whether your husband was terminated, or whether his position was eliminated but the expectation was that a new position would be found for him when he was ready to return.

If your husband was terminated in September 2025, then he is owed his full severance. If he was not terminated, then his passing puts and end to the employment relationship and he is not owed anything.

Please reach out to us if your husband was terminated by the bank.

Thank you,
