Hello - The global based company i work for is closing the local factory in the near future. ~40x jobs from the site will move to a new facility (I am included) but it is clear this will be for a limited time before there is a full closure. I have 23+ years working for the company, 10 of which in Canada and the rest in Europe....when I transferred to Canada, I carried my full entitlement for service longevity and vacation allowance but otherwise signed a new local contract. My question is - if and when my role is terminated in the future, would I be able to fight for the longer service in terms of severance pay or would it be just the 10+ years? What other key points should i consider in case of severance pay? e.g. proportioned bonus pay on top of severance pay? Continued benefits etc

The recognition of your previous length of service in Europe for the purposes of severance pay will depend on the language in the contract that you signed in Canada. Severance pay should be based on gross compensation during the severance period (ie. pro-rated bonus, continued benefits, pension etc). If you are terminated, you should contact us at the number below so that we can assess your termination entitlements.
