Can one be fired for not complying with in-office policy (e.g. must be in office twice a week)? Although the policy has been in place for a while now it hasn’t really been enforced or policed that I’m aware of. However, that could change at any time presumably. There is a possibility of getting an exemption but I have yet to explore this process (not wanting to draw attention to myself).

Your employer could fire you; however, whether it could do so lawfully and without providing you with your lawful termination entitlements - which may be significant - is another question. Likewise, if you require an exemption to the policy as a means of an accommodation related to a protected ground under the Human Rights Code, and your employer denies such an exemption, it may be liable for additional damages.

We strongly encourage you to contact us to set up a consultation with one of our employment lawyers who can fully review your circumstances, provide you with guidance and advice regarding your workplace rights, and assist you in navigating the situation in a manner that best suits your goals.
