Contracted on a yearly 12 month term for 4 yrs then they switched it to a 6 month term notifying me about that change 2 months later into the last term without without any consultation with me. They said extension options maybe possible but I was notified 3 wks ago that they will not renew or extend it. I was with this same company almost 15 yrs prior when they did a mass layoff then too and I received a severance, but in this rehire they only gave me a contract option and now another mass layoff, and I was hit again but without any severance. Am I eligible for a severance with this new Employee Contract situation since they do take deduction (EI, Taxes, etc.) all off my paychecks.
Thank you for your question. While it would be important to review the contracts you signed with your employer, it is certainly possible that you would be owed severance based on your total years of service with the company, which could be significant given your 4+ years of most recent service.
