The company I work for has closed the distribution portion that I work for and I was offered a working severance for two years. Within the severance it states that if during this time I find another job that I am to give them written notice as soon as possible and I would be paid out 50% of what is left on my working severance. When this offer was given to me the company that purchased the distribution portion also offered me a job. I have since signed the working notice severance as there was a short time limit to do so and turned down the other position with the other company. My question is if I was to take another job somewhere else or even if I decided to take a job with the other company that offered me in the beginning is there any way that my original contract can be null and void and they don’t have to pay me out my 50%? I also want to make sure that me moving on to another position, they cannot say I quit and not have to give me my severance.
