I have been on LTD for about 6 years. My employer has terminated my medical benefits as of Jan 1 2026. I am on diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and asthma meds. I have been informed I can not stop these meds or there is a chance of a heart attack. I just wanted to know if my employer has the right to remove my medical benefits while I am on LTD and if I can fight this? They say I am still an employee. So how can they stop my benefits? Just doesn't seem right. Please let me know. Thank you.
We need more information about your terms of employment, including any terms regarding benefits coverage during a long medical absence from work, and your LTD policy.
In some cases you have the option to pursue severance/termination pay and additional damages if your employer suddenly ends the benefits at a time when you are vulnerable.
That said, the interplay between employment and LTD is complex and you should not correspond with the employer or make any decisions without obtaining legal advice first.
We can offer you a consultation if you reach out to us at the number below.
