Add Comment Question: I work for a multibillion dollar company who’s name should be synonymous with payroll compliance. However it isn’t. My boss wants to pay me my extra hours OT owed (he always tells me he knows the kind of work I put in), he has been paying me out slowly, not all hours are being paid out in full because there’s just too many hours, and I’ve been OK with how he’s been paid out, but now my boss told me his boss told him to “limit” my hours being paid out, by doing this, my extra hours are being backlogged (since April 2025). I’m not the only employee in this position either. What are my option(s) as my boss doesn’t want to get fired for doing what’s legal and compliant and is the law, though his boss is telling him not to approve (limit) the hours being paid out to me. Another question, Is there any hidden unknown stipulation as to why unused vacation isn’t paid out that’s not used? I.e could the company “entrap” employees into agreeing we’ve read 100s of pages of a document online and could it be stated in that document that we forfeit any vacation from being paid out? When this is done, can’t find the document any longer (once we “agree to have read it”). Answer: Thank you for your question. Subject to certain exemptions, overtime pay is mandated in Ontario by the Employment Standards Act, 2000, and most employees are entitled to overtime pay at a rate of 1.5 times their regular wage for all hours worked in excess of 44 hours in a week. The ESA also protects employees against reprisal. We recommend you reach out to 1-855-822-5900 to book a consultation with one of our representatives.
