Add Comment Question: I have been employed 7 years with a large Canadian company. I went through on-boarding requirements in 2018. I believe my personal credit was checked at this time. I changed jobs internally in January 2025 but but had already signed the offer letter in Dec 2024. HR followed up with a new background check in Jan 2025. I did a consumer proposal in 2020. Prior to the proposal, I had never missed any payments or went to collections, so my credit score was decent at this time. But I had a business that did poorly and I new I had too much debt to carry at the time. My proposal has been always paid on time. It was 5 years, finishing Jan 28, 2026, however, I may pay it off this month in full. When HR followed up with m in Jan 2025 with a new background check, this came up on my file and they said since I had signed the offer already in Dec 2024, it would pass now but it could be checked again. Our dept deals with some gov’t accounts and I was just advised an RCMP check is coming our way. I am very nervous that my consumer proposal will give me a negative score via the RCMP check and result in termination. Is this possible? How can I combat this before I do the RCMP check to prevent this from happening. Thank you.
