Add Comment Question: Hello my employer admits to recording audio in addition to video at my workplace (we have never been given any policy in regards to video or audio recording written or verbal) but insists they do no listen to the audio when watching the video. Recently management has brought up something said between 2 employees well after management has gone for the day, they claim to know what was said by lipreading the employees . Is there anything we can do to stop this invasion of our privacy? Our union seem unwilling to address the issue at all. thank you Answer: You may want to consider looking at the Privacy Legislation in your province and how that may assist you. However, employer are allowed to record for business purposes - usually safety. It will depend on what the camera is being use for and whether it is clearly visible to the employees and whether the employees are informed that are being recorded. However, as a Unionized employee, you have given up your ability to negotiate directly with the employer to the Union and if the Union is not assisting your ability to deal with the employer directly will be limited.
