Add Comment Question: I work as a part-time CFO for small public companies and bill as a consultant. I've worked for the company for 9 years. Pay has varied based on whether they had money (went up and down). currently around $50k per annum or about 50% of 2025 income (I'm scaling back my work as I'm 57 and working towards retirement). The company is being bought by another company and the acquisition agreement requires that all officers and directors must resign as a precondition of closing. They aren't paying termination pay. Am i entitled to any? Answer: You may be considered by the court to be an employee or a dependent contractor, not an independent contractor. We would have to review the specifics of your contract to be able to provide advice on your entitlements upon termination. You likely would be entitled to notice of termination.
