Add Comment Question: I work for the federal government for just over a year then went off on maternity and parental leave. I did not return and took a 2 year leave without paying due to not securing a daycare spot near me. That being said now that my child is starting school this year, if I am unable to return and they refuse to allow me to take another leave without pay will I need to pay back my parental leave as well as all my top up? My husband works in film so therefore I will be responsible for pickup and drop off at all times and it may not be feasible to go back to work. Answer: If you are unable to return to work, you will not have to pay back your parental leave pay/top up.
