Add Comment Question: My wife has worked for an employment agency and has been at the same placement for that whole time. She has had one raise in that time(about $2.00 hr) about 5 years ago. She has tried talking to her boss and they discussed her coming on direct. When my wife brought up what she thought she was worth all discussions ended(about 3 months ago). We were wondering where she stands legally. Answer: Thanks for your question. Unfortunately, as long as an employer is providing minimum wage or any other hourly wage that was agreed upon at the beginning of the employment relationship, there is no obligation to provide regular or annual raises. If your wife is not being provided with minimum wage (which is currently $14.00 per hour), she would have legal recourse as the employer would be breaching the Ontario Employment Standards Act. If this is the case, you can give us a call at the number below to discuss your options. We would be happy to help you however we can.
