Add Comment Question: I have a upcoming layoff later this year. The severance contract was extremely generous and i have accepted and signed it. My company is hinting at keeping me now. How does this work with a signed termination papers? Can we sign them off and keep me working there? Or is there any legal obligation the company has to follow to keep me? This is not a unionized company. Answer: Thank you for your question. You will be entitled to receive whatever you have agreed to in your signed termination letter. The company may ask you, as a term of your re-employment, to agree to relinquish some of those entitlements, which to a certain extent, is legal. I would recommend you wait to see whether the company is keeping you, request it in writing, and then contact us for a consultation so we can compare the offer with what you are contractually entitled to under your termination agreement.
